Leicestershire Community Champions Award winners announced
Winners of the Leicestershire Community Champions Awards 2024 were announced at the fifth annual ceremony on Thursday night (Nov 7) at The City Rooms, celebrating contributions made by local charities and individuals.
The event, run by Furnley House Foundation, highlights the transformative power of community spirit and the importance of supporting one another.
The night raised £1,266.12, contributing to a remarkable total of £257,000 raised since the foundation's inception. The funds raised at the ceremony will be split between the Charity of the Year finalists. These funds play a crucial role in supporting local charities, enabling them to continue their vital work and expand their reach within the community.
Ten winners were recognised at the ceremony, each representing a Leicestershire-based charity or cause. Winners were chosen based on their ability to provide essential services to their local areas or evidence of making a clear impact on the lives of others.
Furnley House Managing Director Stefan Fura said: "The quality of the nominations were so high and the stories were so inspiring, I’m really proud to be a part of this event. What started as a simple lockdown idea has truly blossomed into something incredible, and the ceremony was a testament to the resilience, kindness, and dedication that fills our community.
"As a foundation, we set out to improve and save lives in our local community. We believe that the best way to do this is by finding those individuals and charities who are already doing exceptional work, encouraging them, supporting them, and funding them."
Former BBC radio presenter, Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire Dave Andrews, and TV personality and fitness expert Rosemary Conley CBE were present at the ceremony.
Among the winners, Soft Touch Arts were honoured with the Trustees Choice award for outstanding contributions to the community through creative projects for young people.
PASIC cancer support won the Charity of the Year Award and received an immediate £5,000 grant from Furnley House and further support for the coming year.
Chairman of the Furnley House Foundation Simon Winfield said: "We had a record number of entries this year and the word 'inspiring' was used many times throughout the ceremony. It was the best one yet in a great venue with a room full of great people, doing great things for our community. It was a fantastic evening and more moving than ever. It feels really special to be part of something bigger than yourself with so many amazing supporters."
Looking ahead, the Furnley House Foundation plans to host its next flagship event, the annual Summer Ball, on June 28. This exciting occasion will provide another opportunity for community members to come together, celebrate achievements, and raise vital funds for local charities.
The foundation remains committed to expanding the scope and reach of the Leicestershire Community Champions Awards, ensuring that more deserving organisations receive the recognition they deserve.
